Così fan tutte continues our investigation of opera as a living form and is part of our ongoing commitment to reimagining operatic language. Mozart’s masterpiece is reimagined not as a cynical experiment in fidelity, but as a study of desire, openness, and self-construction. Set aside is 18th-century moralism, in favor of a contemporary lens that views love as a process rather than a verdict. The six characters form a shifting, polyamorous ecosystem in which boundaries dissolve and reform — not through deception, but through curiosity, vulnerability, and courage.
In this staging, some recitatives are replaced by a narrator — the director’s alter ego — who observes and comments as if analyzing a prototype in development. The result is a hybrid experience: part opera, part performance installation, part emotional laboratory, where Mozart’s score becomes a space for inquiry into how we love, choose, and define ourselves today.
