Share with us a unique experience for you in the opera world. How did it inspire you and what did you learn from it?
A unique experience that I’ve recently been a part of was finishing my first production of Carmen where I took on the role of Escamillo! We decided to do the production in the English language, and being that it is customarily done in French, it was a blast to perform in English and learn both languages in order to have gained the best educational experience. After this time of growth towards a new role, it’s been inspiring to work with so many great musicians in Texas, where Opera continues to grow everyday. As a young artist looking to grow towards a career, it’s inspiring to know that the more knowledge and experience we gain in each production and Camerata Bardi comes to be the next inspiring endeavor for my opera life!
Do you think opera should be accessible to everyone? How do you think this could be done?
As someone who is passionate about content creation, I think Opera is more accessible to the world than ever before. Live music creates the true aesthetic for Opera, but creating more to be seen by society on the interest will lead to nothing but betterment for those that listen. I create YouTube videos on day to day life as a musician and the processes of productions I am a part of, but knowing that it will be seen by the world at any given moment through the content and music it makes me even more exciting to create! Opera is meant to be heard in person and on a stage, but allowing for there be avenues that can be widely accessed by society through content creation will only be a positive.
Do you feel that your work as an opera singer helps you to use your creativity to serve your community? What do you enjoy the most about it?
That’s a good question. I think Opera has been a recent professional pursuit in my life towards my expression of course, but now I feel as though I’m the development stages of learning about what it means to be a classical musician. I love Musical Theatre and just being on stage, but Opera has felt like the strongest connection to my voice that I have come to work with to date. I enjoy the ability to forget about life for just a few moments when music is created, and I think it’s important to connect with your inner self and let go of problems you might be facing in that moment and realize that music can be the greatest benefit to add to an audience heart and a communities spirit. I just enjoy meeting new and talented people everyday, and if I can make someone forget about the harshness of life just for a moment when I express my musical self, then it will always be worth it to me.
